If Kara is not painting, you will probably find her playing mahjong. Mahjong was brought to the Untied States from China in the early 1920s. It was marketed as an ancient Chinese game, but was actually created in the mid 1800s.
 
In 1937, the National Mah Jongg League was formed in order to standardize the rules. American Mahjong is a variation of the Chinese version. Typically, there are four players and the game consists of competing to form distince sets or pairs of tiles, similar to gin rummy.
 
It is estimated that there are now more than 600 millilon people worldwide who play mahjong today. Mahjong was also included in the movie Crazy Rich Asians, much to the movie goers delight.
