Face #6 — Passing Light

A quiet childhood moment shaped by shifting light and shadow.

Face #6 depicts a young boy set against a soft, light blue background. Shadows cast from a nearby window move across his face, creating directional contrast and a strong sense of structure. Subtle color variation within the skin tones adds depth while maintaining a restrained, cohesive palette.

This work was developed from a reference image introduced during a class Kara took through Penn Studios with Jane French. Ms. French has been a meaningful influence on her work; Kara is a proud owner of her book, One Hundred Heads, which directly inspired her ongoing 100 Faces project. This portrait reflects both that inspiration and her continued exploration of expressive, color-driven portraiture.
