She does not smile or ask to be understood. Crowned in flowers and meeting the viewer with a guarded, knowing gaze, In Her Own Bloom explores the tension between beauty and strength, softness and self-possession.
This imagined portrait emerged from an earlier painting that never felt resolved. Rather than abandon the canvas, Kara painted over it, allowing traces of its history to become part of the new work. Expressive brushwork, asymmetrical color, and bold circular cheeks give the figure a presence that is both imperfect and unforgettable.
Created as a larger anchor painting within Kara Manza’s 100 Faces collection, In Her Own Bloom expands the exhibition beyond traditional likeness to explore how color, gesture, and abstraction can create a personality all their own.
