Alla Prima Study (After Carolyn Anderson)
Painted in a single sitting, this alla prima master study was created as part of my ongoing commitment to growing as an artist.
Working from an original painting by renowned painter Carolyn Anderson, I focused on observing her remarkable use of value, color temperature, and expressive brushwork. Rather than striving for a photographic copy, this study was an opportunity to better understand how she suggests form with confident, economical strokes while allowing edges to soften and dissolve.
Master studies have long been an important tradition in an artist’s education. They provide a chance to learn from those whose work inspires us while developing our own visual language.
Though inspired by Carolyn Anderson’s original composition, this painting reflects my personal interpretation through the process of careful observation and paint handling. I leave each study with a deeper appreciation for the artistry behind the original—and with new insights that inevitably find their way into my own work.
