Liam is Face #65 in A Hundred Faces: Brushstrokes of Humanity, my ongoing series of 8 x 8 acrylic portrait paintings exploring the people and connections that make up our lives.
This portrait came to me through a particularly meaningful connection. Liam was painted at the request of my former high school teacher—someone who was part of my life long before I ever imagined becoming an artist. She asked if I would paint this young man, who is part of her extended family, and I was happy to say yes.
Although I don’t know Liam personally, I was immediately drawn to his open expression, sun-kissed face, and bright eyes. My goal was to capture not only his likeness, but the warmth and personality that came through in his photograph.
As an Austin, Texas portrait artist, one of the things I’ve come to love most about creating A Hundred Faces is seeing how each portrait leads to another human connection—sometimes through people I know well, and sometimes through people whose lives briefly intersect with mine through paint.
