Brenner’s portrait began with a joyful smile, a tumble of golden curls, and a pink bow that seems almost as lively as she is. I wanted to carry the warmth and delight of the photograph into the painting, with rosy cheeks, soft pinks, and a deep green background that lets her bright expression shine.
Her mother describes Brenner as small but mighty—two going on four, wildly independent, endlessly chatty, and a social butterfly. Equal parts spunky and sweet, she has a way of winning over everyone she meets. And those magical hugs? They can melt just about anyone’s heart.
I hoped to capture more than Brenner’s likeness: the big personality and affectionate spirit that make her unmistakably herself.
This original acrylic is part of A Hundred Faces, my collection of expressive portraits celebrating the individuality of each child I paint. Every face has its own story; Brenner’s begins with that radiant smile.
