First Tracks | An Impressionistic Colorado Ski Painting
There is something especially meaningful about painting a child you have watched grow up.
First Tracks captures my dear friend’s granddaughter learning to ski in the Colorado mountains. I first met her when she was just a baby, and now, seemingly in the blink of an eye, she is a first grader discovering new adventures of her own.
With her bright orange helmet, rosy pink jacket, and skis resting in the snow, she stands against a beautiful backdrop of snow-covered peaks and evergreens. I wanted to capture not only the winter landscape, but also that fleeting moment in childhood when the world is full of possibilities.
Painted in my loose, impressionistic style, this original 5” x 7” acrylic miniature uses expressive brushstrokes and touches of unexpected color to bring warmth and movement to a snowy Colorado day.
Presented in a simple white wooden frame, First Tracks is a small painting with a very personal story—one that celebrates childhood, growing up, and the memories we hold close.
